Secret Millionaire

A local businessman, who has chosen to remain anonymous (because he is the Secret Millionaire), has given away £8,500 to groups in Newton Aycliffe to help them with their activities and events. Mr X told Newton News “I woke up one morning in January 2015 thinking ‘what a wonderful life I have, how blessed am I, what can I do to help others’? I made it a personal goal this year to help as many people as I could, so with the help of our community newspaper I offered cash to organisations who were invited to apply for funds.”
In July this year, Newton News advertised the offer to local groups and organisations, inviting them to send letters explaining their club activities.
Mr X received twenty six applicants and has chosen the main recipient as Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group, who will receive £6,000 in the form of £500 per month during 2016.
Allison White (chairperson) commented “For our group to be picked by the Secret Millionaire is amazing and the money will make a huge difference to the people affected by cancer in our local community and it will stop the isolation and financial pressures they suffer.
Sometimes you don’t get warning of Cancer so the illness itself can cause so many problems emotionally and physically so we get victims the right professional help as well as focusing on social outings, to get people out of their house and to feel that they are not alone. So thank you so much from myself and everyone in the Cancer Group”.
